Volunteering

We Need Help! Top things we currently need help with:

  • Updating carline signs
  • A lead for the Fall Family Event
We need someone to help lead this soon or it will be tough to get something scheduled. Last year we did “Fall Festival” at Barkham Creek Farms, which did not require too much work. The event could also be something else this year.
  • A lead for Fall Staff Appreciation Luncheon
  • A Spring Fundraising and Flash Dash Chair (but planning should start soon) / Incentives Chair / Corporate Sponsor Chair
  • A District Parent Council Representative
We need someone who could can attend our PTO meetings once per month and the DPC meeting every other month Monday 12-2:30pm.

Come to the next PTO meeting or email opmcentralpto@gmail.com if you can help or if you have questions.

General PTO Volunteering Information

We would love your help!

Are you ready to get involved with Okemos Public Montessori PTO this year? You don’t need to make a big commitment, and you don’t have to come to monthly meetings to make a difference (although ALL are welcome)! Whether you are a First Time time OPM Central Parent or a Seasoned “Pro”, if you have a little or a lot of time to donate, all help is appreciated. Many tasks can even be done at home, online, or outside of school, and positions are open to any parent.

Special School Events and Support

Special School Events Include:

  • Meet the Masters
Meet the Masters art appreciation program is a fun and fascinating way to volunteer in your child’s room. Once a month you meet with the class to discuss a painting by a famous artist. Sessions run about 20-30 minutes. Plenty of background material is available on the art and artists, and the children are full of questions and observations. You’ll learn a lot and love it! (2 people may share duties and alternate months). We need presenters for each classroom.
  • Mileage Club (Spring)
Mileage Club is a program designed to make exercise fun by offering OPM students the chance to walk/run during designated break periods at school and earn incentives for reaching key milestones. We need volunteers to help log participants’ times/miles. We also need Chairperson to lead the group of volunteers in the planning and coordination of each day.  Most volunteer time is during school recesses. Smaller children are welcome to accompany volunteers.
  • Upper Elementary Coordinator / 4th Grade Graduation (June)
Coordinate the upper elementary end of year party (draft sign-up provided), print graduation certificates (template provided) and wrap up the graduation pens for the year-end assembly.
  • Yearbook
This year our photographer vendor that took school photos will be leading yearbook creation.

Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Events Include:

  • Teacher Luncheon (Monday, October 24th)
Lunch provided by Zaytoons and dessert provided by In Kind Bakery. Thank you to these businesses, who also have students at OPM for their donations!
